Jaime Ray Newman will next be seen in a recurring role on the new Apple TV series created by Don Cheadle, The Big Cigar (2024), as well as guest starring in BEL AIR on Peacock. She recently appeared as a recurring character on the critically-acclaimed Hulu series DOPESICK, opposite Michael Keaton, as well as on THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE for HBO. Newman held prominent recurring roles in both DEPUTY on FOX and LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE, opposite Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Previously, Jaime has recurred on VERONICA MARS, THE MAGICIANS, THE IMPOSTERS, MAJOR CRIMES, SATISFACTION, CSI, DROP DEAD DIVA, and NIP/TUCK. Jaime will next be seen in the independent feature film, JUDO, directed by Guy Nattiv. Her other film work includes appearing in CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, RUBBERNECK, the independent movie RED ROBIN, as well as the remake of the animated film TARZAN. She can also be seen in the feature VALLEY OF THE GODS, opposite Josh Hartnett and John Malkovich. Jaime received an Academy Award for best short in 2018 for SKIN. She will next be seen in the short film KINSHIP, directed by Daniel Ramirez and produced by Lawrence Bender and Kevin Brown. O filme iraniano Tatame não é uma fábula, mas oferece pelo menos uma lição de moral para os seus espectadores. Antes de chegar lá, uma sinopse. O longa conta a história da judoca Leila que participa do Campeonato Mundial de Judô pelo Irã. Ela é uma forte candidata para a medalha de ouro. Sua treinadora Maryam já esteve no seu lugar antes, mas não foi bem sucedida. E aqui começamos a puxar o fio que nos conduzirá para a moral do primeiro parágrafo. Ter fracassado no campeonato de judô, de certa forma, conduz muito da relação entre treinadora e atleta – o motivo é um spoiler grande, para saber só assistindo ao filme que estreia dia 2 de abril. Aliás, este é um ponto alto do filme. Todas as relações humanas são muito bem construídas e fogem dos clichês. Especialmente, a de Leila com o seu marido, Nader. Seria muito fácil colocá-lo como machista que se insurge contra a profissão da esposa. Mas não. Aqui, ele apoia sua mulher e torce por ela. Mas nem tudo são flores. Afinal, não custa lembrar que nossas heroínas representam o Irã, uma teocracia extremamente autoritária. E Leila logo descobrirá que ela precisará enfrentar adversários muito mais fortes fora do tatame. Com o desenrolar do campeonato, a judoca lutará contra uma atleta de Israel. Isso, para o regime dos Aiatolás, é inadmissível. Começa uma série de pressões, inclusive contra os familiares da judoca. Pressões que não são meras ameaças. Nesses tempos que o Irã voltou ao noticiário, Tatame oferece uma perspectiva sombria do que é viver em uma teocracia.
